All you need is loIf you’re an Indian city kid who grew up in the ’90s, then your first memories of hot chocolate would probably be associated with the purple and golden Cadbury cocoa tin!

I remember it was expensive and I pestered Maa for days to buy it. She refused point-blank and asked me to drink Bournvita (chocolate flavoured health drink) instead but Papa eventually got the precious Cadbury tin for me. I am Papa’s favourite girl you see!

Every time I drink hot chocolate, I remember that as a middle-class kid I never thought I would enjoy the classic beverage in European cafes or make it at home listening to Christmas carols.

I often feel humbled and extremely grateful for whatever life has offered until now and I’m really looking forward to the new year. Hope it brings health and happiness to all of us! For now, let’s bring in the Christmas vibe with this yummilicious hot chocolate mug!

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup granulated brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 4 cup milk (for a vegan version, use almond/cashew milk)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional toppings: marshmallows, whipped cream, and choco chips

Directions

  1. In a saucepan, add water, cocoa powder, sugar, salt, and whisk over medium-low heat. Stir continuously till the mix is lump-free and simmer for 2 minutes.
  2. Reduce heat to low, pour the milk, and mix well. Heat for a couple of minutes. Do not boil.
  3. Remove from the gas, add vanilla and mix well. Pour into mugs, add your favourite toppings and serve hot! Yummmy in your tummy!

Tips:

  • If you want to make the frothy hot chocolate, then give it a quick blend before adding the toppings.
